Now Let me ask you a question; let’s say you’re new in the soap making business, and while trying to mix out some soap ingredients that should give you a trace like pattern, to eventually get some hard thick laundry bar soaps, but in the process you encounter soap separation___instead of your soap to become a trace like pap, it tends to separate bringing out water in the end. What will you do about it?
My name is Johnson Job, the Co-founder of Edumers’ Laundrix productions __where we produce hard thick laundry bar soaps and various kinds of detergents for commercial purposes. We own 3 different local laundry bar soaps factories at different locations in Nigeria. Of course It’s not like we don’t face soap separation sometimes even as we are experts. But we always find ways to remedy the situation whenever it occurs, and in this Lesson, you’re going to learn exactly how we do it so keep reading.
Perhaps you’re a new student and you haven’t really been into chemical business before, this lesson is going to show you how you can remedy your soap during separation so you will be able to remedy yours anytime you see yourself in such situation. I am going to show you how you can handle it. I just hope that you’ll understand this lesson very well because it’s a very important topic to look into as long as soap making business is concerned.
Causes of Soap Separation and their Possible Remedies:
Firstly, try to rectify the situation by checking if you used the accurate ingredients and measurements before you started making the soap.
Secondly, if you’re sure of your measurements, you’ll mix it a little bit, cover it and leave it but don’t go far or leave it for long if not you’ll meet your soap already formed in your mixing vessel. Do it repeatedly, after some times your soap will be back to normal. So when it comes to normal, pour it into your molds without wasting time.
When this occurs, it could be that there was a vast temperature difference between your Oil and your caustic lye solution.
Of course you should understand that the mixture of water with caustic soda is what forms a lye solution. And this mixture is a kind of exothermic reaction mixture that brings out huge heating effect in the beginning and then cold off eventually after few hours depending on the quantity of the lye solution.
When there’s a temperature difference between your Oil and your caustic lye solution, it tends to bring out soap separation in your production. To avoid this, you’re expected to always maintain the differences accordingly. Which means if your Oil is already cold off at room temperature, you should keep your caustic lye solution to cold off as well before proceeding to produce your bar Soaps. And if you intend to use your caustic lye solution while still hot or warm, then you should also heat up your oil on fire to become hot or warm as well.
Now back to the subject of soap separation control, if your soap is a bit lighter while separating, get some calcium powder and sprinkle it on top of your soap then mix without putting any water. This works especially when it is the oil that separates.
Of course there so many ways you can handle your soap separation depending on the causes, but these are just few I could possibly include in the instruction of this lesson and you might not really understand much from what I’ve just written down here.
