In this age where cleanliness is a priority and affordability is essential, powdered detergent stands out as a household staple. What many don’t realize here is that this everyday product holds that potential for a highly profitable small business venture. With low start up cost, high demand and selling powdered detergent, this can be your entry point into the world of successful entrepreneurship.
Making powdered detergent at home or commercially isn’t just about saving money _ it’s about *creating quality.* With the right ingredients. you can create detergent that *rivals big brands,*
With a wash and better skin friendliness _ and can *profit from* it too!
Now Let’s walk you through how to do it clearly, safely and effectively.
  * Starting from the key ingredients and what they do;
– Soda ash: it is the main active ingredient, it will be acting as the base, cleansing agent, stain remover, and a good water softener.
– Sodium sulfate: this will be our filter in this production.
– Salt: Will be used to control colour fading in fabrics in after production
– Texapon (SLS): Is a surfactant, emulsifer, oil stains remover, lift dirt from clothes, washes, clean and promote effect foaming or lathering.
– LABSA (also known as sulfonic acid): it’s the primary surfactant in all powered detergent. This is where the washing powder, stain removing power and foaming will be activated.
*Ingredients/measurements*
– 1.2kg of Soda ash
– 500g of sodium sulfate
– 200g of Texapon (SLS)
– 200mil of LABSA
– 2 table spoon of salt
– Fragrance
*The step by step process*
Note: Always wear gloves while doing any production.
– Firstly, I’ll start by sieving my soda ash into my production bowl, add sodium sulfate and salt then mix to combine properly.
– Add Texapon and mix all up to combine.
– the next thing on the list is my LABSA also known as sulfonic acid.
N/B: There are different grades of sulfonic acid in the market, there are locally made ones, Korea, China, India but I’ll advice you go for the Indian or the Korean one. Their colour differs, the darker ones which are locally made may affect the outcome of your detergent.
I’ll add my LABSA into the mixture and mix properly.
Also note that adding caustic soda to detergents is not advisable. It can cause damage to the skin.
–Â Lastly I’ll add my fragrance to the detergent.
Make sure you’re careful when choosing your perfume because most perfume do change the colour of detergent.
– Mix it properly for everything to combine, spread it in the atmosphere to dry and then proceed to packaging.
This formula is cost-effective, safe and produces a high-foaming detergent.
